{"id":22129,"date":"2023-06-19T10:53:08","date_gmt":"2023-06-19T08:53:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/fibgar.es\/cronicas-de-luchas-contra-el-odio-acampa-por-la-paz-y-el-derecho-al-refugio\/"},"modified":"2024-04-08T13:48:15","modified_gmt":"2024-04-08T11:48:15","slug":"cronicas-de-luchas-contra-el-odio-acampa-por-la-paz-y-el-derecho-al-refugio","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fibgar.es\/en\/cronicas-de-luchas-contra-el-odio-acampa-por-la-paz-y-el-derecho-al-refugio\/","title":{"rendered":"Chronicles of struggles against hatred: ACAMPA for peace and the right to shelter\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-1ccddc401e539ad064bb6340b322daa0\" style=\"color:#4a4a4a\">In recent years, a discourse based on racism, xenophobia, intolerance, ethnocentrism, discrimination, inequality, exclusion, marginalization and criminalization against this sector of the population, aimed at the construction of the Other understood as a danger, as an <strong>enemy<\/strong>, has been growing stronger.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-55f694b78ccb6a294655a271155bc674\" style=\"color:#4a4a4a\"><strong>Recurrent targets<\/strong> of hate speech are national, ethnic, religious or linguistic <strong>minorities<\/strong>, already vulnerable communities, which become more stereotyped and discriminated against.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-0cf86fea51ff82d3b2b88e63df21bea9\" style=\"color:#4a4a4a\">Among them stand out <strong>migrants <\/strong>and <strong>refugees<\/strong>, i.e. those who have to flee and flee, seeking refuge. <strong>Invisible nomads <\/strong>who move from their territory of origin, crossing territories and borders in order to survive, even if it means losing their lives in the attempt. <strong>Forced <\/strong>to leave their place of origin by famine, war or post-war, poverty, misery, lack of well-paid employment, natural disasters where they lose what little they had, resource-based conflicts that cross borders, shaped by a mosaic of local, regional and international interests, fueled by extremism, criminal networks and urban gangs, ethnic and religious differences.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-55d2f4ac8a2c146a4f3180862ff777f5\" style=\"color:#4a4a4a\">As in a <strong>vicious circle<\/strong>, the rise of political populism and legislation characterized by increasing restrictions on the right to migration and asylum have contributed to the construction of a <strong>collective phobia<\/strong> that exposes the banality of the evil of our times.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-b971e92ad8dc514e4d9208708b362ea9\" style=\"color:#4a4a4a\">All this obliges us to promote and encourage collective actions aimed at promoting peace, democracy and human rights.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" src=\"https:\/\/fibgar.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/f515387c-11d3-4efd-a736-3a1b3461ac41-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-20885\" srcset=\"https:\/\/fibgar.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/f515387c-11d3-4efd-a736-3a1b3461ac41-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/fibgar.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/f515387c-11d3-4efd-a736-3a1b3461ac41-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/fibgar.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/f515387c-11d3-4efd-a736-3a1b3461ac41-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/fibgar.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/f515387c-11d3-4efd-a736-3a1b3461ac41-1536x1152.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/fibgar.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/f515387c-11d3-4efd-a736-3a1b3461ac41-800x600.jpg 800w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-1d4e239b2b7b102ad20b36ef58b57091\" style=\"color:#4a4a4a\">Therefore, last week, in correspondence with the celebration of two relevant international days, the International Day against Hate Speech (June 19) and World Refugee Day (June 20), we participated in the <a href=\"https:\/\/coruna.redeacampa.org\/es\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>VII International<\/strong><\/a><strong> <\/strong>Meeting organized by Acampa for Peace and Refuge in A Coru\u00f1a (Galicia).&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-5e13e50ef93d5a5559cd78433daccec6\" style=\"color:#4a4a4a\"><strong>Acampa <\/strong>is a citizens&#8217; initiative that brings together nearly 60 organizations, including FIBGAR, with the aim of promoting a network of information, exchange of ideas and initiatives for the defense of human rights, International Humanitarian Law and the Right to Refuge.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-b114209c4a150171c4f271e752386d21\" style=\"color:#4a4a4a\">This seventh edition was held under the slogan &#8220;<strong>Hate or Coexistence<\/strong>&#8221; with the aim of bringing citizens closer to a collective reflection on the social impact of international conflicts and the reality of refugees.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" src=\"https:\/\/fibgar.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/b3403a70-8bae-44ea-bb2c-870690ff2661-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-20882\" srcset=\"https:\/\/fibgar.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/b3403a70-8bae-44ea-bb2c-870690ff2661-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/fibgar.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/b3403a70-8bae-44ea-bb2c-870690ff2661-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/fibgar.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/b3403a70-8bae-44ea-bb2c-870690ff2661-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/fibgar.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/b3403a70-8bae-44ea-bb2c-870690ff2661-1536x1152.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/fibgar.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/b3403a70-8bae-44ea-bb2c-870690ff2661-800x600.jpg 800w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-a5ba03f6a560045dc38c604d5f883980\" style=\"color:#4a4a4a\">Among the various activities proposed, the program included the <strong>simulation of a refugee camp <\/strong>and the <strong>Melilla fence<\/strong> almost a year after what happened on June 24, 2022 when, in the attempted jump of about 2000 people through the border crossing of Barrio Chino in Melilla, abusive behavior by law enforcement on either side of the wall produced a massacre in which 37 people died, 77 disappeared and 430 were returned in the heat of the moment. A human tragedy documented by photographer Javier Bernando, present at the time of the events, and recounted by Virginia Alvarez, who piloted Amnesty International Spain&#8217;s investigation into what happened.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-a9a667ef0bd19f879dff2dddd0645d20\" style=\"color:#4a4a4a\">Through the photographs of Oscar Corral and the story of Virginia Mielgo, coordinator of the rescue ship Geo Barents of Doctors Without Borders, the participants reflected on the human rights violations that take place daily in the <strong>Central Mediterranean<\/strong>, the first European supranational liquid cemetery, and the harassment suffered by the rescue ships.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-35b4cc2e3e5b5ec34f61d5e9eebd0d49\" style=\"color:#4a4a4a\">In two keynote speeches, the former president of Uruguay, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/live\/fGtcJNvLU90?feature=share\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Pepe M\u00fajica<\/strong><\/a>, and our president, <strong>Baltasar Garz\u00f3n<\/strong>, reflected on hate as a political weapon and universal justice as a tool for overcoming hate speech, respectively. However, it would seem that there were no lessons learned after the widespread state-sponsored ideology of hatred, persecution and murder perpetrated by the Nazi party and its collaborators. Nor have we learned from what happened, for example, during the Latin American dictatorships of the 20th century.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-d64f3643f235cb4f5d828840bd90558b\" style=\"color:#4a4a4a\">Initiatives such as Acampa&#8217;s international meetings remind us that words kill. Words kill like bullets.
