The event Constructing memories of the past, present and future of European democracy: experiences of the Memor\u00edzate project took place on Wednesday, November 22 at the European Parliament Office in Madrid. At this meeting, which was attended by about 70 people, the 11 young participants of the project Memor\u00edzate! – Let’s commit to memory! project, where they had the opportunity to share the research on the civil war and Franco’s regime that they developed between June and December.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The meeting was attended by Baltasar Garz\u00f3n, president of FIBGAR, and Diego Bl\u00e1zquez, General Director of Democratic Memory of the Ministry of the Presidency, Relations with the Courts and Democratic Memory, who welcomed and opened the event. Throughout the afternoon, three round tables were held: the first, entitled Europe’s shared past, which dealt with issues such as exile, deportations to concentration camps, slave labor, and repression; the second, entitled Institutional violence, perpetual trace, which dealt with the repression of women and forced disappearances; and the third, entitled A future framed in European values, which discussed the removal of Francoist symbols, education and peace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the afternoon, each of the eleven investigations carried out by the youth who have participated in this project, which is part of FIBGAR’s macro-project, Memor\u00edzate, were presented. The participants presented their final works, which reflected their research, hand in hand with protagonists of the memorial movement as victims of Franco’s regime, researchers, lawyers, and activists, who also assisted them throughout the research process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Each of their works deals with one of the topics presented at the round tables, which allowed them to learn more about the topic under investigation and become agents of transformation and change in the memorial movement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
