The eighteenth edition<\/strong> of the Summer Courses, to be held on July 15 and 16 in Torres, is one week away.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since its inception, FIBGAR organizes the Summer Courses in the town of Torres (Ja\u00e9n), in conjunction with the Center for Lifelong Learning and Complementary Training of the University of Ja\u00e9n, and the collaboration of the Provincial Council of Ja\u00e9n and the City Council of Torres.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This edition dedicated to “The Law of the European Union before the Sustainable Development Goals”<\/em><\/strong> aims to provide a deepening and quality update on the main developments adopted by the last European legislature<\/strong>, with a practical emphasis based on human rights and sustainable development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sustainable development is a priority objective of the policies of the European Union<\/strong>, which has become a key promoter of the SDGs through different strategic initiatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the last legislature, important steps have been taken, for example, with the adoption of the first EU Directive on gender-based violence<\/strong>, as well as with the reform of the Directive on preventing and combating trafficking in human beings and the protection of victims<\/strong>. Relevant advances have also been promoted on the subject of objectives 13 (climate action), 15 (life of terrestrial ecosystems) and 16 through the revised Directive on the Protection of the environment through criminal law<\/strong>, just approved in February 2024, and the Directive on Corporate Due Diligence on Sustainability<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Also in 2024, significant progress has been made with the adoption of the anti-SLAPP Directive<\/strong>, the Freedom of the Media Act<\/strong> and the Digital Services Act<\/strong>, the world’s first regulation in the digital field setting obligations for digital platforms. In addition, the European Parliament and the Council have reached a provisional agreement on the anti-money laundering package, including the so-called Sixth Directive<\/strong>, and advanced talks on a new anti-corruption Directive<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

All these topics will be addressed by professionals with extensive experience<\/strong> such as professors from the University of Ja\u00e9n M\u00aa Del Carmen Mu\u00f1oz Rodr\u00edguez, Esther Pomares Cintas and Ignacio Ben\u00edtez Ort\u00fazar; the jurist and communicator specialized in climate and human rights, Irene Rubiera de Felipe; and the professor of International Public Law at the Universitat Rovira i Virgili, Maria Marqu\u00e8s Banqu\u00e9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition, students will have the opportunity to learn from the experience of University of Seville professors Mar\u00eda Libia Arenal Lora and Jes\u00fas Ignacio Delgado Rojas; Juan Manuel de Farami\u00f1\u00e1n Fern\u00e1ndez-F\u00edgares, lawyer and doctor in Philosophy and Law; and Lisardo Garc\u00eda Rodulfo, lawyer and member of the Board of Directors of the Money Laundering Prevention Group of the Granada Bar Association. The course will conclude with practical workshops given by our director Alessia Schiavon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The initiative is aimed at students in legal or related subjects, civil servants, and professionals from various disciplines who need to keep abreast of developments in the European Union and who are interested in having more tools for understanding and addressing current issues related to human rights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
