On December 10th, for the International Human Rights Day, our vice-president Carmen Dur\u00e1n<\/strong> organized an event together with the City Council of Cambados<\/strong>. Entitled \u201cOur Rights, Our Future Now!\u201d<\/strong>, it served as a space to share and discuss the new challenges<\/strong> that artificial intelligence poses to Justice and Human Rights.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

On this day, a poster was displayed on the balcony of the Town Hall with the chosen slogan, and a reading of the preamble of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights<\/strong> took place from 12:00 to 13:00 in front of the Town Hall of Cambados. This was read by members of the city council, organizations and institutions, and the complete declaration was sent to different associations, civil guard, agrarian bed, fishermen’s guild and local police Cambados.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This celebration was born as the beginning of a larger project<\/strong>. The objectives of the project are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    \n
  1. To coordinate <\/strong>the dissemination of Human Rights among different entities: social organizations, institutions (FFCCSS, Justice), Educational Centers and the City Council of Cambados.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. To promote<\/strong> justice in aspects of civic interest.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. Encourage<\/strong> from the City Council a greater degree of communication between citizens and the various local bodies to achieve greater participation and lay the foundations for the improvement of our democracy.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    It is essential that both citizens <\/strong>and, especially, the City Council, know how<\/strong> Human Rights are being transmitted in each educational center. In addition, it is necessary to achieve the involvement <\/strong>of all the councilmen and councilwomen. It is essential that this task of education in Human Rights<\/strong> is carried out in a joint and coordinated<\/strong> manner, so as to generate a greater sense of coexistence<\/strong> among citizens, always seeking the complementarity of each center and promoting effective equality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    In addition, on Thursday, December 12, the film \u201cArtificial Justice\u201d<\/strong> was screened and discussed at the Municipal Auditorium at 18:30. This film explores the disturbing possibility that judges are no longer human but are replaced by artificially intelligent machines<\/strong>. In the film, the Spanish government proposes a referendum to decide whether we should automate the courts with AI, replacing judges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    This feature film, coupled with a reality in which courts are overcrowded, and judges and prosecutors ask for more resources, but trials continue to be delayed, a key question arises: Is it safe to leave our entire justice system in the hands of private AI?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    This screening generated an ethical debate<\/strong> around this question, in which the audience participated, as well as the film team itself, members of the judiciary and various university professors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The commemoration of International Human Rights Day in Cambados represented a starting point to reflect on the contemporary challenges facing justice in a world increasingly influenced by artificial intelligence. This event, organized by the City Council in collaboration with FIBGAR, not only reaffirmed the commitment to the fundamental values of human rights, but also promoted a critical and necessary dialogue<\/strong> on the balance between technology, ethics and justice.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
