Join the campaign: “Democracy isn’t inherited. It must be built. Raise your voice.”
At FIBGAR, we are launching the campaign “Democracy isn’t inherited. It must be built. Raise your voice.”, a call to citizens and the legal community to protect human rights, defend democracy, and fight impunity.
Twenty-three years ago, Spain mobilized against the Iraq war, showing that civil society can influence political decisions and demand respect for international law and fundamental rights. Today, that same democracy faces serious challenges: rights are being rolled back, protests are being criminalized, truth is being distorted, and impunity is consolidating—not only in Spain but also in other parts of the world, such as Gaza and other conflict zones.
Through this campaign, we want to emphasize that democracy is not a gift or something inherited. It is a collective and ongoing process that requires active participation, constant vigilance, and civic commitment. Defending it means standing up to those who seek to impose impunity, normalize injustice, or weaken fundamental rights.
The main objectives of the campaign are:
– Restore universal jurisdiction, ensuring that those responsible for international crimes can be investigated and prosecuted.
– Guarantee justice for victims and hold perpetrators, accomplices, and financiers accountable.
– Strengthen justice as a public service that is accessible and close to citizens, reinforcing social trust in institutions.
We invite citizens and the legal community to sign the manifesto and take action, because every action counts. Signing the manifesto is an act of responsibility, solidarity, and commitment to democracy and justice: no to impunity, yes to justice, yes to democracy.
