FIBGAR hosts in New York the Event “Gender Justice and Universal Jurisdiction”

From FIBGAR, in collaboration with the Association of Women of Guatemala (AMG), we are pleased to announce the event “Gender Justice and Universal Jurisdiction: Strengthening Access to Justice for Women and Girls”, which will take place on March 17th, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., at the Instituto Cervantes in New York. This event is held within the framework of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) – CSW70, the main global intergovernmental forum dedicated to gender equality and the empowerment of women, where FIBGAR will actively represent its commitments to gender justice and universal access to justice.

Created in 1946, the CSW is the forum where governments evaluate progress, identify challenges, and set priorities to strengthen women’s rights worldwide. Although its conclusions are not legally binding, the agreements reached carry significant political weight, potentially influencing national reforms, funding priorities, and advocacy strategies.

This year, the main focus of CSW70 is access to justice for women and girls and the elimination of structural barriers that hinder gender equality.

The event will feature the participation of leading experts and human rights leaders, who will share their knowledge and experiences on how to strengthen gender justice and promote universal jurisdiction for gender-based violence crimes:

  • Laura Quijano Ortiz – UN Women
  • Maxine Marcus – Partners in Justice
  • Gissou Nia – Strategic Litigation Project, Atlantic Council
  • Mariana Karkoutly – Humanity In Action
  • Adilia de las Mercedes – DEMOS, Association of Women of Guatemala (AMG)

This gathering is not only a space for discussion but also a platform to create connections, exchange experiences, and strengthen alliances among organizations, activists, and leaders committed to gender justice and the protection of women’s and girls’ rights worldwide. Its purpose is to generate tangible impact, contributing to improved protection mechanisms and universal access to justice.

At FIBGAR, we reaffirm our commitment to defending the rights of women and girls, promoting universal and equitable justice. This event represents an opportunity to highlight existing challenges, exchange innovative solutions, and work together to build a more just and safe future for all women.
