FIBGAR Commemorates Human Rights Day in Cambados with Full Reading of the Universal Declaration
On December 10, on the occasion of International Human Rights Day, FIBGAR organized a commemorative event in Cambados, bringing together local authorities, residents, and representatives of various social organizations. The day, marked by solemnity and a strong commitment to the defense of fundamental rights, included a public gathering and a full reading of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, a document that remains a key reference for protecting the dignity and freedom of all people worldwide.
The event featured active participation from local political authorities, with the Mayor of Cambados himself opening the reading with the Declaration’s preamble, followed by a sequential reading of all thirty articles. These principles enshrine universal rights such as equality, freedom of expression, the right to education, and protection against discrimination. Beyond its symbolic value, the initiative served as a reminder that, 77 years after its adoption by the United Nations General Assembly, many of its provisions are still violated in numerous parts of the world.
The full reading of the Declaration took place in an atmosphere of respect and reflection, with each article recited to emphasize its continued relevance and the collective responsibility to safeguard the rights already achieved. Participants included members of the Town Hall, representatives of local associations, and citizens who wished to join the event, making the commemoration a moment of unity around the values of justice, equality, and freedom.
For FIBGAR, the day was also an opportunity to reinforce social commitment to the promotion and protection of human rights, especially in a context where past achievements must be defended against new challenges and setbacks. The public reading of the Declaration also highlighted the importance of human rights education and active community participation in monitoring and upholding fundamental rights.
On this occasion, FIBGAR expressed its gratitude to its patron, Carmen Durán Martínez, whose continuous support and commitment to human rights have been crucial for organizing the event. The institution publicly acknowledged her dedication and the encouragement she provides to initiatives that foster civic awareness and the defense of human dignity.
The Mayor of Cambados, when reading the preamble, underscored the importance of remembering and reflecting on the rights enshrined in the Universal Declaration, inviting all attendees to commit to their daily protection. Throughout the reading, each article resonated strongly with the audience, reminding everyone that human rights are not mere formalities but living principles that require constant vigilance, education, and action.
FIBGAR hopes that events like the one held in Cambados help strengthen public awareness of the importance of human rights, inspiring new generations to defend equality, justice, and freedom. The full reading of the Universal Declaration is not only a historical tribute but also a reminder that protecting these rights is a collective responsibility that demands commitment, consistency, and accountability from all members of society.
Thus, Human Rights Day in Cambados became a symbol of unity, memory, and hope, reaffirming that defending fundamental rights is a permanent obligation and that, more than seven decades after its adoption, the Universal Declaration remains an essential beacon for building fairer and more humane societies.
