FIBGAR joins ALDA: An alliance for a more inclusive and sustainable future

At FIBGAR, we are excited to announce an important step forward in our commitment to promoting democracy, human rights, and citizen participation. From now on, we are part of ALDA – European Association for Local Democracy, a global alliance that brings together local and regional authorities with civil society actors to work together in building resilient, inclusive, and sustainable communities.

ALDA is an international organization known for its participatory approach, promoting cooperation between different actors at the local and regional levels. The association gathers over 1,600 members in 60 countries, and its main mission is to strengthen local democracy and promote inclusive governance. In this context, ALDA’s work focuses on creating spaces for active citizen participation in political, social, and economic decision-making, ensuring that public policies are more responsive, effective, and adapted to local realities, fostering well-being and social cohesion.

A step towards greater collaboration

FIBGAR’s membership in ALDA strengthens our commitment to international cooperation and the defense of fundamental rights. Through this alliance, we aim to share knowledge, experiences, and best practices in key areas such as local democracy, social justice, gender equality, sustainability, and citizen participation. We are convinced that only through a multidimensional and cooperative approach can we make significant progress in building fairer and more equitable societies.

At FIBGAR, we understand that democracy is not an abstract concept but a daily practice that must be nourished by active citizen participation. That is why we are thrilled to be part of this global network of actors committed to building stronger, more resilient, and sustainable communities. Through ALDA, we aim to strengthen our training, awareness, and human rights advocacy initiatives, joining forces with other organizations that share our values and goals.

New collaboration opportunities

Being a member of ALDA opens new collaboration opportunities, both nationally and internationally. From now on, FIBGAR will have access to a range of resources, events, programs, and joint projects that will allow us to expand our impact in various regions and work more effectively in our areas of intervention. Furthermore, the alliance with ALDA will enable us to establish new connections with institutions, local governments, NGOs, and communities worldwide, enhancing our actions in favor of human rights and democracy.

We are convinced that this new chapter in our organization will strengthen our capabilities and enable us to go further in building a more democratic and supportive global society. Through ALDA, we will share our experiences in defending international criminal justice, democratic memory, and fighting disinformation, among other key issues, with a global network of actors who share our vision.

FIBGAR and ALDA: United by the same purpose

Active participation in ALDA allows us to join forces with other organizations and local authorities committed to democracy, human rights, and building sustainable communities. This step is a clear demonstration of our strong commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations 2030 Agenda, especially SDG 16, which aims to promote peaceful, just, and inclusive societies.

In this new context, FIBGAR will continue working to promote fundamental rights, social justice, and gender equality, supporting local communities in their development towards a more inclusive and sustainable future. Being part of ALDA is undoubtedly a unique opportunity to strengthen our network and collaborate with other actors committed to the same purpose.
