Memory and Solidarity: The “Books with Memory” Event in Support of Families Affected by the DANA in Valencia
On January 8th, the “Books with Memory” event was organized by FIBGAR and the Valencian publisher Vinatea, in collaboration with the Diputación de Valencia. This event was an opportunity to reflect on Spain’s historical memory while expressing solidarity with the families affected by the DANA in Valencia.
Maria Garzón, President of FIBGAR, participated alongside Baltasar Garzón and Luis Vivas, creator of the “Lessons from Our Grandparents” project, which collects family stories from victims and survivors of the Spanish Civil War and Francoism. During the event, Lucía Amo, Noelia Segarra, and Carmen M. Gijón, who are part of this book, were also present and shared their stories and experiences, giving a voice to a past often silenced.
The event served as a space for reflection on democratic memory in Spain, family stories related to the Spanish Civil War and Francoism, and the importance of remembering the women who lived through these times. Additionally, the role of younger generations as guardians of memory was highlighted, ensuring the transmission of the lessons of the past to the future.
“Books with Memory” was not only a day to honor history but also an act of support in times of need, reaffirming society’s commitment to justice, reparations, and solidarity.
