Between 2016 and 2018, FIBGAR led A Change of Direction, a project co-funded by the Internal Security Fund of the European Commission and aimed at creating a protection framework to ensure the overall integrity of alerters in the European Union and its member states.
Together with other European institutions and organisations (Università di Pavia, Aix-Marseille Université, Blueprint for Free Speech, Latte Creative, Libera), we worked on the definition of a comprehensive analysis of the political and legal structures related to whistleblowing in order to:
– Identify weaknesses, good practices and mechanisms in EU legislation for the protection of whistleblowers;
– Consider the creation of tools for responsible and effective whistleblowing;
– Address the social dimension of the phenomenon, trying to influence the perceptions and support of society.
