University Youth Against Organised Crime

The project ‘University Youth Against Organised Crime’ is an initiative promoted by the Baltasar Garzón International Foundation (FIBGAR) and the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM), aimed at strengthening critical thinking, youth leadership and the defence of human rights in the face of the challenges posed by organised crime, with an innovative and multidisciplinary approach among university students.

In Spain, the fight against organised crime tends to focus on criminal prosecution, leaving attention and redress for victims in the background. This project seeks to broaden that perspective by promoting a space for critical training, collective reflection and transformative action that places victims at the centre of the debate and encourages youth involvement in addressing this complex phenomenon.

Over several months (October 2025 – March 2026), a selected group of students will participate in a series of five thematic seminars taught by specialists from Spain, Europe and Latin America. Through debates, participatory dynamics and group work, participants will develop an action document that will include concrete proposals to contribute to the public debate on organised crime from a human rights perspective.

The project offers an interdisciplinary experience, open to students of Law, Criminology, Political Science, Philosophy, Labour Relations, Business Administration and Management (ADE) and other areas interested in contributing complementary perspectives.

The process will culminate in a public event to present the final document in March 2026, where the conclusions and proposals of the participating group will be shared. Those selected will receive a certificate of participation issued by FIBGAR and the UCM.

With this initiative, FIBGAR reinforces its commitment to promoting an active, critical university community committed to justice and human rights, promoting youth leadership in the construction of alternatives to organised crime.
