Environmental Democracy, Conflicts, Territory and Gender

FIBGAR Argentina is promoting the training programme “Environmental Democracy, Conflicts, Territory and Gender”, an initiative developed in collaboration with the Office of the Ombudsperson of the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires and with the support of the Women in Environmental Dialogue Network.

The programme aims to strengthen analytical and practical capacities to address socio-environmental conflicts, providing tools to understand contemporary environmental challenges from an interdisciplinary, legal and human rights perspective, with particular attention to gender.

The programme consists of two online seminars. The first, taking place on 23 October 2026, will focus on environmental justice, addressing environmental protection, access to justice and the fight against impunity for environmental crimes. The second, scheduled for 20 November 2026, will focus on territories in conflict and socio-territorial impacts, examining the tensions between development models, environmental protection and the rights of local communities.

Both seminars incorporate gender as a cross-cutting perspective, recognising the role of women in defending their territories and highlighting the differentiated impacts of socio-environmental conflicts. They will also explore the legal, institutional and social mechanisms that can help prevent human rights violations, strengthen citizen participation and promote more inclusive and sustainable public policies.

Through this initiative, FIBGAR Argentina seeks to contribute to strengthening a more participatory, inclusive and just form of environmental democracy, promoting opportunities for training and exchange that connect legal and technical knowledge with the realities of local territories.
