Intersectoral Fora for Social Transition
Advocacy / Human rights
FIBGAR aims to create a network of women of different ages, promoting reflection on the role of women in democratic memory, with the aim of fostering interest in democracy and strengthening the construction of a more equitable and just society.
In short, this project is justified as a necessity to promote gender equality, the active participation of women in democratic life, and the preservation of historical memory as a tool for building a better future based on the values of justice, equity, and respect for human rights.
In the current context, where women’s rights continue to be violated and where women continue to face barriers to accessing leadership positions and participating in political and social life, it is urgent to strengthen the network of women committed to democracy. The active participation of women is a fundamental pillar for consolidating a robust and pluralistic democracy that reflects the diversity of society.
Furthermore, access to democratic memory and its proper interpretation allows us not only to understand past processes, but also to project democratic values into the future, ensuring that new generations are better informed and more active in defending democracy. In this sense, the project aims to create a space in which women of different ages, backgrounds and trajectories can reflect on the importance of democratic memory, learn from the experiences of others and make informed decisions that contribute to strengthening democracy and equality.
Thus, this network was created with the aim of fostering the creation of a network of women of different ages, promoting reflection on the role of women in democratic memory, in order to strengthen their active participation in democracy and consolidate collective interest in democratic values.
On 26 March 2025, we held the event to launch the Network. This occasion was celebrated in collaboration with the El Club de las 25 Association and the Equality Unit of the Complutense University of Madrid, in the auditorium of the Faculty of Philosophy of the same university.
Thanks to the event, numerous women from different professional fields, but who are defenders and promoters of women’s democratic memory, were able to meet and exchange ideas to begin building the Women’s Network for Memory and Democracy.
